What is Skip-Bo?

Setting Up the Game
To start a game of Skip-Bo, you will need:
- A deck of 162 cards, including 144 numbered cards (12 sets of numbers 1 to 12) and 18 wild “Skip-Bo” cards
- A playing surface for each player, such as a table or floor space
- A pen and paper to keep score (optional)
- The first dealer is determined by each player drawing a card from the deck. The player with the highest card becomes the dealer.
- Each player is then dealt 30 cards face down, forming their stockpile or “build pile”.
- Five cards are then dealt face up on top of each stockpile to create the player’s “hand”.
- The remaining cards form a draw pile in the center of the playing surface.
- The top card of the draw pile is turned over and placed beside it, forming the discard pile.
Playing Skip-Bo
The player to the left of the dealer starts by drawing 5 cards from their own stockpile, or the draw pile if their stockpile is empty.
- The objective of the game is to get rid of all the cards in your stockpile by building “build piles” in numerical order from 1 to 12. You can also use wild “Skip-Bo” cards as any number.
- Players can lay down up to four build piles at a time and can continue to build on them as long as the numbers are in sequential order.
- If a player cannot make a move, they must discard one card from their hand onto the discard pile.
- A player’s turn ends when they have discarded a card from their hand.
- The game continues clockwise with each player taking turns until someone has emptied their stockpile and declared themselves the winner.
Additional Rules
- If a player uses all five of their cards from their hand, they may draw another 5 and continue playing in that turn.
- Wild “Skip-Bo” cards can be used as any number and can also clear a discard pile.
- Players can play on each other’s builds piles, but only with the owner’s permission.
- If the draw pile runs out, the discard pile is shuffled and becomes the new draw pile.
